| The
Ministry of Magic is responsible for the entire wizarding population in
England. We can also consider it as a bridge between the Muggle and the
Magical world due to the fact that The Minister who runs it is exchanging
information with the Muggle Prime Minister.
The building itself is hidden
below the surface, somewhere in the center of London. You can get to the
Ministry either by using the Floo Network or the Visitors Entrance which
is located down a small alleyway. You’ll find there an old vandalized
telephone. Once you get inside, dial 6 2 4 4 2 (which forms the word MAGIC
when typed on a phone’s keyboard). You will hear the voice of the
receptionist in the headset. You will be asked to state your name (and
job if you are an employee). The telephone cabin will then begin to descent
under the ground like an elevator until it reaches the entrance hall which
is paneled with mahogany and has a black, very polished wooden floor.
The ceiling is peacock-blue and inlaid with shining moving symbols. On
each side of the Atrium you can find fireplaces for wizards that travel
using the Floo Network.
In front of you, right
in the middle of the hall there is fountain with some golden statues sitting
in the center. Tallest of them all is a noble-looking wizard with his
wand pointing straight in the air. Grouped around him are a beautiful
witch, a centaur, a goblin, and a diminutive house-elf. The last three
are all looking adoringly up at the witch and wizard. Glittering jets
of water fly from the ends of the two wands, the point of the centaur's
arrow, the tip of the goblin's hat, and each of the house-elf's ears.
The security desk is positioned at the other end of the hall. You’ll
have to present your wand for registration if you are a guest. The golden
gates behind it lead to the elevators.
