The
British village of Hogsmeade is the largest wizarding community in the
country due to the fact that it’s exclusively populated by wizards.
Hidden from the eyes of Muggles behind the shadow of a large rocky mountain,
it brings together all sorts of wizards and magical creatures like Hags,
Ogres or Goblins that can’t blend in too well in other Muggle inhabited
places. The basements of this place were settled a thousand years ago
by Hengist of Woodcraft, a wizard who had been persecuted by Muggles.
The
village is located just 30 minutes down the road from Hogwarts, near the
Forbidden Forest. It consists of a High Street filled with shops, cafes,
Inns and alleyways of cottages that extend towards the exterior of the
village. The main occupation of the people is the merchant. The shops
supply the wants and needs of the students and staff of Hogwarts and not
only.
Hogsmeade
is very well connected with the school. Both played a very important role
in the evolving of the modern wizard society and were created about the
same time. There are also two secret passages linking Hogwarts to Hogsmeade.
The first passage begins at the statue of a one-eyed witch located in
the middle of the third-floor hallway (Hogwarts) and leads in the basement
of the Honeydukes sweetshop in Hogsmeade. The other passage begins from
under the Whomping Willow (Hogwarts domains) and ends inside the Shriecking
Shack in Hogsmeade (considered to be the most hunted building in Britain).
