An exciting and lengthy interview with the Harry Potter author appeared in the the Edinburgh newspaper "Student" this month. In the interview, JK Rowling talks about the past 17 years of her life in which she shared her world with one the greatest fictional characters of all time - Harry Potter. She discusses subjects such as the religious opposition to the Harry Potter series, her depression after writing the last page of the Deathly Hallows, Dumbledore's sexuality and the religious opposition to her books.
Here's the official description of this documentary: With unprecedented access, cameras follow author JK Rowling in the year that she completes her publishing phenomenon, the Harry Potter series. The programme captures her return to the sources of her inspiration, and she reveals what she is planning on writing next.
A week before the scheduled broadcast of ITV's Documentary on her, the Harry Potter author had visited her old flat in Edinburgh, Scotland for the first time in ten years.
When she entered the room she said:
"This is really the room where I finished Philosopher's Stone, here. This is really where I turned my life around completely. My life really changed in this flat."
"I feel I really became myself here, in that everything was stripped away, I'd made such a mess of things. But that was freeing, so I just thought, 'Well, I want to write,' and I wrote the book and, 'What is the worst that can happen? It gets turned down by every publisher in Britain, big deal. It's really back to the wall time here'."
JK Rowling wins a common sense award for her books.
"J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter series: At a time when reading has never faced more competition for kids' time and attention, this series single-handedly reversed a worldwide trend. The Harry Potter series has enthralled a generation of kids (and their parents)."
J.K Rowling is not to write anymore Harry Potter Stories!
In an interview JK said that she didn't want to write any more fantasy stories like Harry Potter.
It's a few months after the seventh book was released and JK has confirmed that she will not write any more Harry Potter style books in the future.
"That's forever enough.", she said. "I left the beautiful world of Harry Potter and won't return again."
Despite this, J.K did say that she "might" make a Harry Potter Encyclopedia, and don't forget that the Harry Potter theme park in Orlando, Florida will open in late 2009/early 2010!
The two men appeared out of nowhere a few yards apart in the narrow moonlit lane...
These were the first words from the first chapter "The Dark Lord Ascending" from the 7th and final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Last night, at 0:00 GMT+0 UK time, 5000 children gathered at the Natural History Museum to watch the ball drop down as the most expected book in the Harry Potter series was released and to hear author J.K. Rowling reading from her latest creation.
Millions of copies went into sale starting last night. Amazon.com alone announced that it has sent over 2 million copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
So, you heard it. The final and the most anticipated book in the series has been released. The story is over, but let's make the magic continue!
Here are two videos from Jo's public reading last night:
[SPOILER WARNING]: Jo reads from the first chapter of Deathly Hallows
An article covering the details of the new growing music genre known as 'Wizard Rock' was recently released by MTV.
The article mentions well-known bands such as Harry and the Potters and Draco and the Malfoys. It goes on to say:
"Fans of the Harry Potter books and movies have done something magical — and practically unheard of — with their devotion: They've turned it into song. Yes, there have been songs inspired by other cult books and movie series (think Led Zeppelin and "Lord of the Rings"), but wizard rock isn't a song here or there or even a concept album. It's become a genre."
"Deathly Hallows" is due to be released this summer
This will no doubt be the most eventful Harry Potter summer of all time. JK Rowling’s official web site was updated on the 1st of February to reveal the release date for the 7th and final book in the series that brought her world wide fame.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will hit the shelves on the 21st of July this year, one week after the 5th movie hits theaters.
You can pre-order the book on Amazon.com for only $18.89. The hardcover will sell for $34.99 and the deluxe edition will cost $65.00. These high prices may suggest that book 7 is longer than any other book in the series.
